I DON'T OWN ACCEL WORLD

Kuroyukihime inhales deeply, looking downcast after completing the description of her situation.

“So, to keep it brief, my parents are getting divorced and are fighting over which one will take custody of me. This wouldn't be that big a problem but they're also both planning on leaving Japan after the custody battle is decided.” All you could say was you were sorry. She nods, smiling at you.

The trial takes place in one week and both my parents are leaving right after it's done. So, as I'm sure you've figured out, I won't be able to link with any of you for very much longer. And I'll likely lose contact with many if not every Burst Linker, since practically all of us are in Tokyo.”

“I know I'm stating the obvious, but that means you won't be there to lead Nega Nebulas anymore! And we can't hold our ground without you Senpai! You're our leader!” All Kuroyukihime does is nod, looking even more sad than before. You feel your own emotions start to well up, but push them back down.

Senpai, why tell me any of this? Why me and not anyone else?”

“You're my Brain Burst child {F/N}, it's my responsibility. Not only that, but I trust you more than anyone else in the group, and I still feel like I owe you. After you accepted my offer to become a Burst Linker, you introduced me to your friends, helped me come out of my shell and get to know more of our classmates.” You continue ignoring your emotions, which are currently freaking out and continue pressing her for a reason.

“Why tell me? I know you Senpai, there's always another reason with you, so why me?” She sighs and raises her hands.

“You do know me too well {F/N}, I think you could be the only one who can help me. Can I ask you to at least hear me out?” You nod instantly, desperate for any way you could keep Kuroyukihime from having to leave.

“I’ll do it, just tell me what I can do.” You see a grateful sparkle in her eyes.

“{F/N}, I've noticed that you're particularly skilled at breaking tension, especially among people you care about, like our friends. I was thinking you could try the same thing with my parents.” You're taken by surprise at the simplicity of her plan. Your stomach feels sick at the idea of that being the only chance you two have.

“So, you want me to heal your parents relationship?”

“I want you to try to with everything you've got. It's up to you {F/N}, you're the only chance I have of remaining here.” You inhale deeply, and nod your head.

“Okay, I'll try as best I can.”

“Good .” Kuroyukihime stands up, disconnecting the cable from her Neuro Linker. You disconnect your end and stand as well. She slowly wraps her arms around you, holding you weakly. Oh gosh, oh gosh, what do I do? What do I do? you think. You stand there for a good 5 seconds, trying to make up your mind while also feeling your face heat up to dangerous temperatures.

“Just hug me back already,” she mutters. You oblige, pulling her in even closer. This is what's wrong with you, me! Stop assuming she's coming onto you and just be a nice person! You quiet your thoughts and stand with Senpai in your arms, knowing that all she needs at the moment is a friend.

You'd offered to walk Kuroyukihime home and she'd agreed. You two reach her house and you hear shouting coming from inside. I can hear it from outside the house? you think as she sighs and turns to you.

“I'm sorry I dragged you into this.” You shake your head.

“It's fine, I have to make sure you can stay here, I don't want to see you leave.” She smiles and lets go of your hand.

“We start tomorrow,” she says as you turn away, hiding your blush. Oh gosh, I was holding her hand, how did I not notice? You're about to head home when you turn back, and see a single teardrop fall from Kuroyukihime’s cheek. No, don't cry! I can fix this, I'll make sure you won't have to leave! You set your expression and decide to try and hear what her parents arguing about. Once she walks in the door, you study the house, looking for any opening you could listen in on the argument from. A small, open window gives you your listening place and you get low to the ground, sneaking up to it from the side. You get down on your knees and raise you ear to the window, the conversation becoming easier to hear.

“He's free, they just LET HIM GO! How on earth are you okay with this?” yells a male voice. You hurriedly open up your Neuro Linker’s menu and scroll down to the audio section, hitting the record button just in time to pick up the next shout.

“I’M NOT! But what do you suggest we do about it?!” The second voice is female, and you use your amazing logical brain to conclude she must be Kuroyukihime’s mother.

“Well, how about going to the Virtual Crimes Division and ask them what the HELL THEY’RE THINKING!”

“But why should we even care anymore! It's done! It's been 25 years since the incident!”

“ARE YOU KIDDING?! Do you honestly not remember that this man is the reason our friend is DEAD?!” Holy crap, responsible for a friend dying? Just what happened to these two?

“OF COURSE I REMEMBER!  But what does that have to do with this? Why can't you just MOVE ON!” There's a pause, then the male laughs coldly.

“Well, when someone close to you dies, you don't get over it in a few damn weeks.” There's another pause, and then you hear the mother start crying.

“Why did you say that?” she whimpers.

“To make my point, so YOU WOULD JUST-”

“STOP IT!” Kuroyukihime’s voice suddenly shouts.”You're making her cry, can't you see that's enough!” You hear the male huff before walking off, without another word. They actually stopped when she asked. Even while in a fit of rage, he still realized he'd gone too far. You didn't know what significance that comment had, but it was clearly a large one, considering it'd made the female start crying. You end the Neuro Linker’s recording and slowly slide away from the window before standing up and sprinting back onto the sidewalk. We may still have a chance, you think. I didn't think it was possible until the end of that, where they actually stopped. You turn the corner, glancing at Kuroyukihime’s house one more time before it disappears from view. Senpai is counting on me to mend her parents relationship, and if I can't, she'll be gone from our lives forever!
